Vercel MCP setup: projects and deployment logs

Start with a bounded read test: the right team, one project and a known deployment.

Published on · by tracevero · Reading time 3 minutes (556 words)

Choose a project you can open in the Vercel dashboard and note the ID of an existing deployment. This gives your first request a concrete comparison point. A long tool list does not establish that the connection can access the intended team. This guide provides setup instructions and a small test you can reproduce in your own environment.

Add the endpoint and grant team access

Vercel hosts its remote server at https://mcp.vercel.com, using Streamable HTTP and OAuth. Add the following entry to .vscode/mcp.json in VS Code. If the file already contains servers, merge the new entry into it instead of replacing the entire file.

{
  "servers": {
    "vercel": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://mcp.vercel.com"
    }
  }
}

Start the server in VS Code and complete sign-in in your browser. Check the Vercel account and the teams being granted access. The VS Code guide covers starting a server and selecting tools. Use a client supported by Vercel; an arbitrary HTTP client does not automatically receive the same access.

Three checks before reading logs 1. Team Permission 2. Project Selection 3. Deployment Time range
Check each identifier before moving to the next level.

Inspect an existing deployment

  1. List accessible teams and projects first. Compare the project ID with your dashboard, especially where test and production projects have similar names.

  2. Select an existing deployment. Compare its ID, status and timestamp. This check does not require a new build.

  3. Limit the log request to that deployment and a short, known time range. Record the time zone so both views refer to the same period.

  4. Compare a known message with the dashboard. Keep only the information needed for handover; full logs may contain confidential application data.

Common points of confusion

Observation and next comparison
ObservationCheck
Project missingCompare account, granted teams and project ID.
No logs returnedCheck deployment and time range against a known event.
Server added without signing inComplete OAuth; saving a URL does not grant access.
Unexpected environmentDistinguish Preview from Production using the deployment ID.

Documented tools include list_projects, list_deployments, get_deployment and get_runtime_logs. The connection can expose write operations as well. Select only the tools required for your first check and use the access planner before extending permissions. A request phrased as a read operation does not create a technical read-only boundary.

Common questions

Is Vercel MCP the same as hosting an MCP server on Vercel?
No. This guide connects to Vercel’s existing service. Hosting your own server is a separate project with its own address and access controls.
Do I need a local npm server?
Not for the direct HTTP connection shown here. The client contacts the remote endpoint. When reusing another example, check whether it describes a different connection method.
Why are some projects missing?
First compare the signed-in account, authorised teams and existing permissions. Then open the same project in the dashboard to check the expected scope.
How can I keep the first test small?
Use a known deployment and a short time range. Confirm its ID and status before including logs or additional tools in the request.

The Vercel registry search adds vendor declarations. Find more connections in the operations app selection.

Vendor sources checked on 3 October 2026. The checks are intended for your own environment; no customer account was connected.
